CD Reviews

Romantic, Melodic songs with Great Techno Beats from Germany

"Simply a Great album that touched me in Many ways. Haddaway's biggest hit in US was "What is Love", a Melodic and Romantic song with a Great Techno Beat. But his debut album was not all about Dance, it had soo Much More to Offer. After 10 years of having it, this CD still makes me go crazy.Haddaway's Voice is also Out of this World, it's Amazing, and reminds me a bit of performer Seal. All songs here (with exception of a few) were written by Dee Dee Halligan, and Junior Torello. I heard a rumor that these are no other than Tony Hendrick and Karin Van Haaren (composers for 80's German Dance/Pop group Bad Boys Blue). This makes sense because this album was released on Coconuts Records, a record company founded by and run by Karin and Tony. As I said, not all songs on this CD are Fast dance like "What is Love", but they are All Great. 2) "Life (Everybody Needs somebody to Love) - this is just like "What is Love" maybe even better. 10) "Rock My Heart" - Fast dance/techno song, just like "What is Love", great Melody Hook 12) "Shout" -also a Great Fast Techno song 4) "Come Back (Love Has Got a hold on Me) - also very similar to "What is Love", a Great Melody and Beat. 13) Life (Mission Control Remix) - an awesome Remix of Life, great Synths! 6) What is Love (Rapino Brothers Remix) - this is a Horrible Remix, original is much better. If this was the last track, I would skip it, but it's not. Now, there are also some GREAT Slower songs and Love Ballads on this album. "Yeah" - a nice song, not too fast, not too slow. "I Miss You" - this is an Awesome Love Ballad, Very Beautiful "Tell Me where it hurts" - Another GREAT Upbeat Love Ballad, this one was not written by Halligan/Torello, but was written by Great American composer Diane Warren (her company is Realsongs and she wrote many songs fro many performers like Aerosmith, Babyface, Ace of Base etc etc) "Mama's House" - I just love this slower song, Very Beautiful. I always think of my mother when I hear it. It also reminds me of George Michael's "Careless Whisper" it's just as Great. "Stir It Up" - a great Cover of Bob Marley, a Reggae tune.
So As you can see, I think this album is GREAT with all songs potential Hits. It's a great addition to any CD Collection, if you don't already have it. Also make sure to check out Haddaway's 2nd album (not released in US), called "The Drive". It's also GREAT, maybe even better, hard to say. American Record companies as always missed on this Great Artist, and never gave him much chance or promotion (other than for "What is Love"). That's sad. Because Haddaway is NOT a One-Hit wonder, never was, never will be. Thank You Very Much and Enjoy this Great CD"

"I bought the album simply for the song "What Is Love" which will be one of my favourites until I'm very old (I finished high school mid-90s). I expected the rest of the album to be tacky, cheesy and cheap but found it strangely enjoyable (although it definitely had some tacky and cheesy moments!!). You'll usually just play "What Is Love" off this, but if you forget to stop it after that track finishes you'll probably let it run to the end as it draws you in."
