CD Reviews

For those who like Ned's Atomic Dustbin - their legacy is he

"I bought this CD recently. But I should have done it a long time ago. I'm a big fan of Ned's Atomic Dustbin, since 1992, and have been missing their sound since they split up.

I've been aware that John Penney - Ned's frontman - had recorded this CD with with his new band called Groundswell, but since the classic NAD's "two bass players" formation wasn't present, I kind of got scared that the sound of the new group might be a disappointment.

But my faith in Mr Penney's skills were higher than my fears and I ended up promissing myself that I would buy "Plausible, Infeasible" at least to complete my "Ned's Atomic Dustbin Discography".

It took me a long while, but after finally purchasing the CD, I have to say... THANKS GOD I DID IT!

The songs are better than expected! Three of them found their way to my heart and soul during the very first listening. Tracks like the great "Surrender" (4), the beautiful "Find Out Why" (12) and the smasher "Pole Position" (1) are right there in my list along with NAD's best.

Of course, truth has to be told, two of the songs I did not like too much(tracks 3 "Bionic" and 5 "Mars")but even these two are ok, since John's voice is present.

All in all it's a different record from those of NAD's. I have to say that the first and second NAD's records (and the songs they recorded during that period in the begining of the 90's that were released only on EPs or bootlegs) are the ones I love the most, and "Plausible Infeasible" is different from them, but not that much, since Ratt (an ex-NAD) composed some of the songs with John.

But be that as it may, and no matter how much I miss the two-bass formation, Groundswell came up with a great list of songs and I'm happy they came to be for some time.

I'm just very sorry this was their only record, and I feel sad for the fact that they no longer exist.

Well, at least there are 16 new songs from Mr Penney to listen to in this record and we should all be glad we have this chance!

Now, before ending this review, a message to Mr Penney:

Please, continue recording your songs, or get Ned's back on studio again, whatever... Just keep giving us your music - there are people all over the world that misses it!
