"Don't let the low price fool you - this is excellent authentic Greek music. It is *exactly* what you would hear played at any gathering of Greeks for a special occasion or glendi (festival). There is a medley of traditional Greek folk songs from the islands as well as more frequently heard songs of recent origin, that create an atmosphere of joy and exuberance. There is spontaneous dancing where ever this style of music is played: kalamatianos ... tsamikos ... pogonisios ... tsiftetelli. One of the songs even has the 'ullalations' (vocalizations with sound when the tongue is quickly placed against the roof of the mouth) that are of Turkish origin but often done during heights of emotional pleasure, especially during "belly dance" music or dancing. The female vocalist of "The Hellenes" does one of the finest renditions of "Misiirlou" I have ever heard. I often find myself singing along with "Thessaloniki". It reminds me of the past, when I once rode on a train through Greece and passed through this northern city. Overall, this is one bargain CD you do not want to pass up if you love Greek music or have been to a Greek festival and want to recall the joyful event. Erika Borsos (erikab93)"

"I have the original record from which the CD was taken as well as the CD. This is a good example with all the strengths and the flaws of what you would hear at a authentic Greek Party in the United States whether it was 10 years ago or 10 days ago. While this is not cutting edge or classical Greek Music, it gives much of the joy and liveliness of popular music and is a nice addition to more heavy and more typical album initially made from cuts from more original artists."
