At Last On CD
12/17/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ever since I retired my turntable a couple of years ago, I've been searching for "Live At Last" on CD. If you're a serious Rathead (like I was in the late '70's), or even if you've never HEARD of these guys, this live set recorded in 1979, I believe, at the old My Father's Place club in Old Roslyn, NY, captures the joy and energy of the best, most original (not to mention prolific) small-venue band I've ever seen (about 30 times, in fact; I was a groupie). The music on this CD is one of the things that made being a teenager on Long Island in the disco era tolerable. So when is "Tasty" coming out on CD?"

"Oh, it's over 20 years now since I went to a Good Rats concert - my parents were my age when I was into the Good rats - and they HATED them - which made it all the better for a 14 year old boy! The Good Rats were the ultimate live band. Anything in the studio had a stilted, forced quality - you can almost hear them counting the measures out in their studio albums. But live - oh, live is another thing entirely. John Gatto on the guitar, Leo and later Shuyler deal on the base, and of couse, the shup-shup-shup drumming of Joe Franco (who later went on to be a Studio musician on many albums). This is their only live album - I had many poor quality "bootleg" tapes and this album was a relief from the lousy recordign quality of my casettes. All the tracks on live at last kick butt, and the extended drum solo on Klash-ka-bob is a hoot. If you are Good Rats fan, you know this is the only album to get."
Live at last one of the few great live albums....

"If you think about it there isn't many REALLY good live albums but The Good Rats "Live at last" is one of the few that IS REALLY GREAT. The double album set contains MANY of the Rats "crowd pleasing" songs...Taking It to Detroit, Does It Make You Feel Good, You're Still Doing It, School Days, Tasty, Fred Upstairs and Ginger Snappers, Klash-Ka-Bob, Fireball Express, Victory in Space, Reason to Kill , they ALL rock hard. A GREAT drum solo by Joe Franco highlights Klash-Ka-Bob, Franco is one of my all time favorite drummers. Excellently produced, not over polished...it really sounds the way they did live. The music is tight and the vocals are fantastic, they are known for good harmonies and musicianship. A MUST HAVE as all of the Good Rats albums are. You won't go wrong getting this."
