Synopsis

Product Description
The band's rap sheet calls the consortium known as Gomachi "a progressive jazz/funk fusion project." But in reality they are a throwback to the days when the best rock musicians tried to get inside your head for a cosmic roller coaster ride. Gomachi occupies a musical realm that had its heyday from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s with the popularity of bands such as King Crimson, Soft Machine, Quiet Sun, Matching Mole, National Health and other English progressive rock bands. Elements of more percussive bands such as The Police and Herbie Hancock's Headhunters are also present in Gomachi's impressive debut disc Good Evening, Evolution. In this era of endless jammers, it is refreshing to hear a band that has mapped out its intricate chord progressions and rhythmic changes well in advance. That's not to say that these guys can't improvise, it's just that it is secondary to the compositional flow of the tune. Songs like "Carve" start out with a straightforward groove and then get broken down into their elemental parts and reconstructed. On "Another Piece of Me," the band starts out with spacey synthesized sounds that make one feel that gravity is giving up its grip then the songs slips into a more rhythmic groove with plenty of cool drum and keyboard interplay. Gomachi's music rewards the attentive listener and Good Evening, Evolution is one of those rare albums that reveals itself slowly over repeated spins on the stereo. Good Evening, Evolution was recorded at Star Trak Recording Studios.
