Synopsis

Album Description
2009 collection of achingly beautiful gems from the Country vocalist. A role model for the female Country singers who followed her and contemporary Kitty Wells, Goldie Hill was the inspiration for Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton, Following her early '50s hit sides, this collection gathers together 16 of her most aching tales of break up, lost love and tear-sodden disaster, all from a back porch far, far away. Guaranteed not to leave a dry eye in the house and with a backing sound that's pure melancholy, Don't Send Me No More Roses is the ultimate in soulful Country balladeering with a sound that's very much in the Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris style. Righteous.

A welcome collection of classic 1950s honkytonk country

----------------------------------------------

This is a much-welcome reissue of classic early-1950s recordings from pioneering female country singer Goldie Hill (who later married honkytonk star Carl Smith). Hill was a great singer, and these recordings are all great fun. All fifteen tracks here are also included on the earlier collection from the BACM (British Archive Of Country Music), but it does not include her biggest hits such as "I Let The Stars Get In My Eyes," or most of her duets with singer Justin Tubb. Still, it's great stuff -- if you don't know Hill's work, but enjoy other classic country gals such as Jean Shepard and Kitty Wells, then you should definitely check her out!
