"Goldenrod's provocative and colorful debut, Paintings for Prophets, is an intricately arranged and boldly produced journey through psychedelia into sex, love, money, death and transcendence. It is truly unclassifiable music - influences from early sixties soul and eighties funk to world beat and Appalachian instrumentation continually saturate the soundscape. "Come to Light" is more of an other-worldly electronic tune with a simple pop arrangement, but imagine if the Dali Lama, Dr. Dre and Rick James co-wrote it. "Counting Coup" follows in similarly produced fashion though a dark, apocalyptic piece. The instrumentation, production, and arrangements are profoundly interesting and the songs are ingenious, bona fide gems: cover-to-cover. Paintings for Prophets just gets better with every listen."
