Synopsis

Product Description
The world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra need no introduction, but the name of composer Harry Warren will be less familiar. Harry was born Salvatore Guaragna in Brooklyn, New York on December 24th 1893. The eleventh and youngest child of a cobbler. As a child Harry taught himself to play ten instruments including accordion. At fifteen years of age he became a drummer with a brass band. A few years later he became assistant film director at a silent film studio in Flatbush, New York. During his breaks he composed melodies at the piano and from that start he decided he wished to be a song writer, the rest is history. When he moved to Hollywood in 1931 he and his lyricist Al Dubin were to compose the music for over sixty movies, many containing some of the most memorable tunes of the twentieth century. Movies such as The Harvey Girls, Gold Diggers Of 1933, An Affair To Remember, Cabin In The Sky, Forty Second Street, The Belle Of New York, Orchestra Wives and Sun Valley Serenade to name but a few. This CD contains some of the many of his finest tunes.
