Glen Campbell stands as the biggest pop country crossover artist of the late '60s. His highly successful work on Capitol Records applied elaborate studio craft to songs of suburban angst. As an interpreter of the detail-rich vignettes of songwriter Jimmy Webb, Campbell articulated dense lyrical narratives with emotional clarity. A highpoint of Campbell's long career, Wichita Lineman was the third of four career-making albums (along with Gentle on My Mind, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, and Galveston). Along with the title cut, the 1969 album features another massive Campbell potboiler, "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife."
