Bathory, Falkenbach, Amon Amarth, Enslaved and even DoomSword is what you can hear through the chants contained in "Nordheim", a journey through the history and the legends of the last great Pagan Horde the world witnessed. Nordheim" is a true epic viking metal masterpiece, the celebration of northern Europe ancient mythology with majestic atmospheres and powerful sounds. They're serious? That's hard to believe, coming from the same band who demonstrated such a subtle blending of seemingly disparate and eclectic sounds and styles on such albums as Grimborg and Sjofn... What? They're not the same band--they're a different band who chose to use the same name? Uh. Hmmmm. Okay, I'll start over. While I'm quite conversant with a wide variety of musical genres (including, among others, hard rock, punk, and hardcore) I'm probably not entirely qualified to judge heavy metal; however, this album simply cannot be an outstanding, good, or even representative sample of heavy metal--I refuse to believe that the genre is that bad. The music on this album is painfully simplistic, monotonous, and repetitive; relieved only by a few transitions and passages intended to sound profound and meaningful but which are in fact cliches and trivialities so artlessly overblown and overwrought musically and lyrically as to be downright silly. I'd like to sell this disc but I'd feel hopelessly immoral for taking somebody's hard-earned money for it."
