Synopsis

Album Description
Italy's great musical archaeologist and one of today's outstanding improvisers, Gianluigi Trovesi, indulges in his love for the drama and beauty of Italian opera Accompanied by a fantastic "banda", the large wind orchestra with percussion as we find it in the on-stage-music of many operas by Donizetti and Verdi, the reedman takes us on a humorous journey through the history of the genre, enriched with light and playful improvisation. Great, energetic arrangements of popular operatic tunes from L'Orfeo, La Serva Padrona, La Traviata, Tosca and Cavalleria Rusticana! This uniquely enjoyable blend of operatic highlights and jazz improvisation will likely appeal to music lovers from very diverse backgrounds. The music marked by temperament, passion, poetic beauty and humor, all composed according to a very Italian formula. A one-hour-long medley that renders homage to the characteristic Italian combining of elaborate art and popular entertainment played with stunning energy and bravura.

"While it's not really something you treat more than curiosity project it really have something there. The combination between opera instrumental music and Trovesi's Jazz improvisations if fantastic. I enjoy this CD very much and remember, it's an ECM production which always got very good productions!

I recommend this CD to lovers of both Jazz and Classical music."
