CD Reviews

Seasoned Country Is Like Fine Wine
jjranch@cell2000.net | Los Banos, California | 12/01/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Even if you are not an oldies country fan, give a listen and you will be with this set from George Jones and Tammy Wynette. You will find Country Oldies are like fine wine. As they become seasoned with age, the better they are to the pallet sounds of listening enjoyment and memory taking. Makes for starting a geat collection too."
What Country Was...And Ought To Be
Scott M Hall | Merced, CA United States | 01/09/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It's all here...the musical embodiment of the highs and lows of a legendary pairing and a marriage gone bad. Both Wynette and Jones are in top form on this compilation; its creation long before hard living and the road left their scars on remarkable voices. The harmonies are beyond superb and the emotions run deep. This duo didn't just sing songs; they lived them. Buy this CD and become part of the experience that was Country Music Royalty."
George and Tammy - need one say more?
Joe Taylor | 09/24/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD could have also been titled, 'The Life & Times of George & Tammy'. Musically speaking, it's all here. THE CEREMONY captures the near sticky sweet love and honor that all their fans delighted in when they wed in 1969. WE LOVED IT AWAY shoves the painful reality into the spotlight and brings back the disappointment we all felt when they divorced in 1975. In between we find promises of trying (WE'RE GONNA HOLD ON) ... vows of unending love (TAKE ME and NEAR YOU) ... laughter (GOD'S GONNA GET YOU FOR THAT) and tears (SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA). Listening to their greatest duet hits makes one meloncholy. Oh, it's not the singers or the songs - both shine on this greatest hits collection. It's the recognition that, especially with Wynette's recent death, a musical bookmark in country music's history is gone and a time when we could cherish a "Mr. & Mrs. Country Music". A time when we all wished we were, indeed, not the "jet set", but instead the Jones and Wynette set"
