CD Reviews

A great title

"there simply isn't anything like George Jones...even during his time coming up in the industry and counting today. there will never be another George Jones. this tape captures 10 of his performances at random. "She's My Rock" was a huge Top-10 smash in 1984 {hitting #2 for 3 weeks} and this is one of only a few collections to feature the song, although there's several other compilations just as good as this one. the cover is a much used one. record labels almost always plant this picture of George on nearly every budget-priced project of his they release. i recall seeing the picture first on a collection called "All the Best, Volume Two" and then on a 36 song 3-CD collection called simply "36 All-Time Greatest Hits", which several weren't even singles but they fit the theme of the CDs so who cares. on this "Nothin' Like George Jones" project, the songs aren't in chronological order. "Love Lives Again", "Kiss An Angel Good Morning", "I'll Take You To My World" and "Baby, There's Nothing Like You" were not hits but they're all good anyway. the highlights for me are "The Grand Tour", "He Stopped Loving Her Today", and "She's My Rock"..also love the others. this album is NOT essential if you have these recordings already, which most of us already do. however, i review albums based on the songs and if i like them or not, and completists will want this because it is so obscure and hard to find...5 star material here and the sound quality is excellant...but, for fans in general, you don't need the album if you have these songs on other collections unless you're a completist like i stated."
