CD Reviews

Ducas standing tall.....
Fireball | Toronto | 08/31/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"One of the best albums that I have ever heard recorded, written and engineered. Most of George Ducas' material is either head on honky tonk country, or authentic hybrid rock-roots music. His second album, brings us to a larger arena of different sounds in his songs. A musician that's so well crafted with his work, molds so well with the other talented musicians and co-writers, all holding a solid drive, without trying too hard to prove anything, or becoming weird and misunderstood, simply going for what he feels in his words and song. A fantastic tune that's a lot of fun, is 'Everytime She Passes By'. A dead ringer for summer that is candy for anyone in love, especially newly budding couples. 'You're Only My Everything' has more to say than how lovely she looks, reaching deep into the pockets of a heart. A warm piano and small soft beat bring out the sparkles. The more heavyweight and faster tune, 'Stay The Night' is so musically gripping with a rocket fueled guitar and driving beat, that it becomes an undeniable song. George hoists in great pure country, with the sad song 'The Invisible Man', and continues to sway with a more open shuffle on 'I'm Pretending'. These two are so rich in traditional country, that you realize George is more than an ace of the roots-rock world. Full of painful realization comes the formidable rocker 'I'd Be Lying'. Perhaps the best song done on here, although it is so hard to choose from any of these, would be 'Heartaches And Dreams'. Drums turn to a roll on the bridge before they go back into gear, while vocals with Ducas and another superman of country, Vince Gill (on background), merge with real tangy lead guitar and rythym guitar. 'Tricky Moon' is more humoured and fun, and a tune that makes you wanna dance! 'Long Trail Of Tears' drives far into the night (you can feel the loneliness), while 'Could Have Fooled Me' relaxes the heart that love is here to stay. Thankfully, Ducas is one who is very rich in emotion and words, yet doesn't sling over unusual lyrics. What he says counts, and won't confuse you. George's music is daring, fun, cool, very creative, and from where we stand, well understood. He knows music. Thanks George for one of the most innovative and rad albums ever recorded. And thanks for your self titled 1994 album, which is also awesome. I can't ever get enough of 'Hello Cruel World' ! Aaron (novice rockabilly/country songwriter and music fan)"

"This album is one of my family's favorite. His style and lyrics are fresh and fun and get us all in a great mood. His talent, which is evident in this as well as his other albums, keeps his pieces from ever growing stale. We look forward to his next release."
