Synopsis

Album Description

"Blobscape" is a solo adventure featuring sixteen guitar improvisations culled from one hundred such performances recorded in the Fall of 2001 at the Narragansett Grange Hall in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Geoff's inspirations for this collection include Charlie Parker, Derek Bailey, Bach, John Zorn ...as well as Secret Stars collaborator Jodi Buonanno. Jodi inked "action paintings" as Geoff watched and played, both working off each others' ideas. Blobscape bursts with technical proficiency even as its tones and inflections deliver emotional shadings of every stripe. It unprepossessingly suggests the restless intelligence of its creator while warming up any room in which it's played.

"..would include this amazing cd. its the type of music that's perfect for a quiet, cosy, lazy night beside a big fireplace, with a bottle of wine. It'd be harsh to say this is background music, yet it's perfect for listening to while reading, writing, daydreaming etc.. Yes, this is very jazzy, it's very complex in places, but also blessed with simple and beautiful moments. It's astounding to think this is all improvised too! It's not a record to put on and rock out to, or sing along to. This IS a record to lose yourself in. You can either use it to simply fill the silence while you do something else, or you can let it invade your mind and soul, and if you do, you will feel blessed.I wouldnt have thought one man and his guitar could captivate as much as this does. It really makes me think of the improv jazz legends, only with a beautiful guitar.If you like songs to be 3 minute long sing-a-longs then avoid this. If you like improvisational jazz; miles davis, charlie parker, john coltrane etc..buy this now! Every note chimes, every note dances, every note is in its perfect place. This will fill many more of my perfect cosy lazy nights."
