CD Reviews

Great Zydeco with a little Creole flavor

"Highly recommended by a Louisiana native"
Geno's La Chanson Perdue, an excellent Zydeco CD

"If you're looking for a good Zydeco CD, then do yourself a favor and pick up this release by Geno Delafose. Geno is a very adept accordion player and singer and he leads his band - French Rockin' Booogie - through the paces on this CD. Geno plays Zydeco with a definite nod to traditional arrangements. For example, Geno plays waltzes - something that is rare for a Zydeco band. Bonsoir Moreau is included, a beautiful end-of-the-evening waltz. Opelousas Waltz is also on this release. Geno plays graceful passages on accordion and also some heart-pumping Zydeco phrases as well. Listen to My True Love, Bernadette and Double D Two Step and you will want to dance. If you ever get the chance to see Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie live, then by all means go to the show and be prepared to dance. Geno and the band are at the top of their game and IMHO, there is no better Zydeco act touring the country. Two enthusiastic accordion player's thumbs up for this CD."
Geno at the height of his Zydeco Music career!

"Even though Geno Delafose is the sexiest accordion player alive, this reason alone is not enough to buy this CD. However, Geno has pulled together some of the greatest musicians in the primes of their careers: John "Popps" Esprite boasts a mean bass, while "Cookie" Chavis (sound familiar?) jams a rockin' guitar, while enthusiastic metallic rhythm is kept by Steve Nash (who also dances a mean Zydeco step), and Geno's cousin, double clutchin' Germaine Jack on drums. This CD is a prime example of just how Zydeco music only gets better as the originators of Zydeco's offspring only make better what their fathers started. Lyrics of each song are sung in Creole French, and included in the CD in both Creole French and English. Catch Geno and his band at their best! I highly recommend this CD to any newly budding Zydeco enthusiasts!"
