GENESIS IS A GENIUS!
intrspiral | a place called hate | 09/01/2000

"Genesis P-Orridge has done it once again. He is one of the masters of spoken word. This album in my opinion is one(because there are so many) of his masterpieces. This album is one song.....which is about 70 minutes and the truly amazing thing is that it was all recorded in real time! It's beautiful and disturbing at the same time. I love this album so much it's hard to describe my feelings for it in words. All I can say is that it's art pure and simple! It takes you on a ride through gardens and dark forests.....it soothes and scares the hell out of you as you go through all the emotions in this epic adventure. For true avante garde music fans only!"
Thee Throttle set to music
Fitz23 | Brooklyn, NY | 10/06/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

""A Hollow Cost" was one of the first recordings that Genesis P-Orridge created following his arrival on American soil during his so-called exhile and the first full release he did with Invisible Records. It was recorded during the time that Genesis was engaged with providing background music/sound for Timothy Leary and it would seem that Leary's spoken word presentations played heavily into this recording. It would also become the template for GPO's later work with Thee Majesty.

The spokenwork portion of the album is an extemporanious rendition of GPO's written work "Thee Throttle" with additional material culled from older PTV lyrics, William S. Burroughs quotes and fresh insights. The musical accompanyment was provided by Larry Thrasher which draws upon found sounds, manipulated audio clips and bits and pieces of the sessions that would become the basis for the last Psychic TV (2) album "Trip Reset.""
Contagious, radical, and highly evolved

"while the constantly evolving back drop of "cathedral engine" (larry thrasher's acoustic ambient score for the album) is no less significant, hollow cost focuses more specifically on the essence of the spoken word."
