CD Reviews

Pop That's Almost Operatic
Joseph Panzarella | West Islip, New York | 01/21/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"One of the most distinctive voices from the sixties, very powerful and unique. This disc, volume one is packed with hits, I thought they were all here until I saw volume two, man this guy had a lot of hits. You get a total of 12 songs, nine of them in true stereo, my favorite all time Pitney song is on this disc, "Half Heaven, Half Heartache", it was worth the price of the disc for me to get my hands on this song, and in stereo too. Another favorite of mine is "Last Chance To Turn Around", I guess because one of the lines in the song is "Last Exit To Brooklyn", that's my hometown. Another favorite of mine is "Town Without Pity" from the film of the same title, I don't care who you are, if you know this song I'll bet a weeks pay you sang it in the shower at least once."
Worth a million stars

"Gene Pitney has a really odd, almost girlish voice but boy can he hold a note. This album deserves seven thousand stars for the meisterwork that is 'Somethings gotten hold of my heart.' Has anyone else sung such a poignant, beautiful, heart rending, emotion filled love song ever? It is absolutely gorgeous. Other highlights are 24 hours form Tulsa. All together now ....'but i was oooonly twenny four hou-rs from Tuuuuuulsa....'"
