"Gann Matthews is the brightest light to come out of the Rocky Mountain music world in the last 20 years. Recently having relocated to New York, Matthews' music reflects the musical independence that comes with a Western upbringing. Most folks around the nation know of Colorado's immense jam band scene. However, far fewer are aware of Colorado's new crop of young singer/songwriters who embrace more traditional acoustic songwriting structure and naturally emphasize poetic, hearfelt lyrical imagery. Gann Matthews is the cream of this crop. Named the 2005 Singer/Songwriter of the Year by Denver's Westword alternative newspaper, he stands at once at the start of his career and the top of his game. His songs show a clear influence by legendary American songsmiths like Neil Young and Bob Dylan, but his deep lyrical and musical range show that he has a large stack of Radiohead and Beck CDs at home, too. But Gann Matthews is his own man, putting his classical musical training and multi-instrumentalist talent to excellent use. The songs on this CD range from catchy shuffles like "The Stranger" to dark, complex emotional thrillrides captured in "The Circus Song." He has just released an EP entitled "Silent Sound" and reportedly will have a full length CD to present to a waiting world once it is completed in New York. "The Thin Line" is a CD that is raw, honest, diverse, and a gem you will listen to over and over.
