CD Reviews

In the Beginning..
06/29/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Back when Jazz Rock Fusion was still an oddity, Gamalon gained a well deserved reputation for being a great group with a great debut album. I never 'read about them' in Rolling Stone, and I never saw them on tour but I am here tonight, 12/15/2009 to find a replacement for my now worn out tape of Gamalons debut album purchased in 1988. One more hint, if you liked Timbuk III and you can deal with instrumental only, these guys are for you."
Great Talent in Obscurity

"If you ever wondered if there were tremendously talented musicians living in local obscurity yet with all the chops to be big-time, you were right. Gamalon has them on this 1987 CD. 4 talented players, 3 of whom had been playing together since the 70's--and it shows. A very tight ensemble. I would have preferred a much bigger drum sound, but this is still a great first time out for the band and producer, drummer Ted Reinhardt. George Puleo's unbelievable playing takes center stage throughout, but there is a real gem hiding here. Bruce Brucato is one of those countless great talents the world simply missed out on. Those who've heard him play live know how truly great his talent is. Too bad these guys never made it to the big time. Do you like electric guitar? Then buy this CD."
Gamalon general review

"I own all gamalon releases except for 'Held to the Light' and 'Live at the Tralf' which I just found out about and plan to buy. Great musicianship. Guitarists are entertaining as Joe Satriani and more of a band thing going on. Great guests(violin/sax/keys) also. If you like proggressive rock & good grooves worth buying."
