CD Reviews

Jazzy Breaks
D. Smith | edinburgh, scotland | 07/22/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The album G-Clef's Jazzy Breaks by none other than G-Clef da Mad Komposa, is a laid back, mostly instrumental album of jazz keyboard and saxophoe solos put to a hip-hop beat and bass line, with other crazy samples added on top, composed and produced by the very same G-Clef. Less vocals than the Sampler by the Houndz, the emphasis is on emotion.
Out of the 22 tracks of fun, favourites are;
Melanin from hannibal. Sledges hypnosis. Peaceful Strut. Back up off me. Split personality. Kaos made organized (with a very cool, strong bass loop).
These are all experimental tracks of combinations of jazz instrumentals and hip hop, doing something new.
The Shake, has a good number of sample in there, including the Average White Band's classic "Pick up the Pieces". think back to the convoy of synchronsed cars in Swingers.
Duke Arise conjours up music of a previous era, "At the moment, I feel a little bit blessed"
that sums it up beatifully, Duke."
