CD Reviews

Guard Your Heart
Lee Armstrong | Winterville, NC United States | 05/27/2007
(2 out of 5 stars)

"This set from 2000 was recorded in Monrovia, California near Los Angeles. I really like the cover art by David Guiles. The folk duo of Joy and Steven Guiles has pleasant voices that mix sweetly. "Nothing But the Blood" is a gory homage to Jesus with plodding music that might have been strummed in an old church. "Marjorie & Gifford" is a sweet guitar instrumental dedicated to their grandparents. "You & I Won't Fade Away" is a pretty testimonial to a belief that love is forever. The CD concludes with the spiritual "Rejoice," "Let your gentleness be evident, Let your worries child be made known; and the peace that passes understanding will guard your heart in Christ." I enjoyed the spiritual aspect of the disc. The musicianship and vocals are enjoyable. However, the melodies on the disc are disposable, not very original nor do they stay with you. This is a disc I'll pull out mostly because I like the cover art, but the music does not hold my attention. I wanted to like this. It's not awful; it's just not interesting. Taxi!"
