CD Reviews

Fast, Fun Jangly Guitar Pop
Christopher John Olsen | Sacramento, CA USA | 01/17/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Hard to talk about the Frenchmen without comparing them to Talulah Gosh, but I only say that to get the comparison out of the way. The Frenchmen are still light-hearted and fun, but perhaps not quite as sticky sweet as TG. But the pop hooks are there, and the teen beat 60's guitar pop sound is laced with some fast, hard, Keith Moon-reminiscent drumming and one or two rat pedal soaked intros. The album, though contiguous, also lacks the feeling of all the songs sounding the same. Sacramento's The Frenchmen proved that 2004 didn't have to be the year that good, decent indie pop stopped being good and decent."
