CD Reviews

Stop me if you've heard this one before...

"I love Freedom Call, I really do. Their brand of hyper-melodic, sunshine and light, sing-along European power metal is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. But after five straight albums in pretty much the same vein I'm starting to wonder if it isn't time for a change.

Don't get me wrong, Dimensions is a perfectly good album, and exactly the kind of album you'd expect from Freedom Call. But that's the problem. We know exactly what to expect. There isn't much on Dimensions that you couldn't find on The Circle of Life or Crystal Empire. Sure, the band sounds tighter and more professional with each release, but shouldn't there be some sort of growth or progression to their sound? It doesn't have to be anything drastic like changing to black metal, but if they shook things up a bit I might start eagerly anticipating Freedom Call albums like I look forward to new releases by Angra or Brainstorm.

As it stands now, this may be my last Freedom Call purchase. I still love their music, but they're just not giving me anything I haven't heard on the previous four albums.

Another great release!

"Freedom Call delivers another great album of uplifting power metal. Continuing to evolve their sound slightly without deviating from the core of what Freedom Call is, Dimensions gives some new elements here and there to add to an already amazing sound. Freedom Call have progressed from straight out high speed power metal in their beginning to a more fleshed out sound with lyrical content randing from the fantasy based to social commentary. All tracks are stand out numbers. Basically, if you have been enjoying the ride Freedom Call has been giving with each release, get your ticket and hop on for another leg of the journey."
Great stuff

"This is the first CD from Freedom Call I ever purchased. As fan of Heavy Metal for 20 years...I got to say these guys are great. They aren't hardcore, but neither are they wimpy. The overall vibe of the music is upbeat and the chants make it a lot of fun (they remind me of Iron Maiden chants). A refreashing find for anyone interested in a kind of progressive and 80's mix (not the glam 80's). The closest way to describe them is as a little bit softer version of Gamma Ray."
