CD Reviews

Kites, sunshine - gorgeous

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Umbrellas completes Siesta's Free Design trilogy and very nicely at that. If you've been enthused enough by the previous two FD releases then you're bound to stick around for this one.As expected, it's well worth the wait. Where do I start with this CD? Well, it contains the best sunshine pop song ever written: Kites Are Fun. There's loads of other Chris Dedrick originals inlcuding the catchy You'll be You And I'll be Me, the gorgeous When Love is Young and the absolutely drop-dead spectacular The Symbols Ring which is like a crazy 60's pop hymn, or something. Covers abound and include and as always the Free Design take them to new gorgeous heights, there's Eleanor Rigby, A Man & A Woman, Happy Together - all great. Less great is their cover of Laura Nyro's Time & Love but given the quality of everything else on the CD you'll hardly notice. Now all that's needed is for Siesta to release is one more CD to gather up the remaining single only releases, Christmas songs and other bits and pieces not on their previous compilations (Bubbles and Raindrops)."
