Synopsis

Product Description
Freddie let loose last year with two independent mixtapes, The Miseducation of Freddie Gibbs and the notable midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik, the epic tome of street truths that put him on the cover of XXL s Freshman Top 10 issue as well as the collective rap-consciousness. He then won over notoriously fickle audiences at SXSW, a critical bridge few rappers have crossed, and this is just the beginning. We ve seen the jab and the Str8 Killa EP is the right hook that will solidify Gibbs as one of the most talented MCs recording today.

To coincide with the EP release and continue his reign as the midwest s mixtape king, Freddie will be releasing a free mixtape version of the project titled Str8 Killa No Filla on July 29th with XXLMag.com. The mixtape will serve as a highlight of the EP, giving fans a taste of what to expect from the official release. The EP will feature two exclusive tracks that do not appear on the mixtape.

"I first heard of Freddie Gibbs last year (2009) on his critically acclaimed mixtape MidwestGangstaBoxFrameCadillacMuzik. What stood out the most about Gibbs was his ability to switch his flow mid verse while still maintaining a lyrical edge. Gangsta Gibbs is easily one of the more lethal mc's rapping today containing a sharp wit, menacing flow, and unapologetically honest lyrics coupled over some hard hitting beats. His style reminds me a lot of Young Buck with a Twista-like Midwest flow and Z-Ro esque harmony and honesty.

Nonetheless Freddie Gibbs has arrived with his first official offering for the masses, the Str8 Killa EP. Eight songs deep and eight songs strong, Gibbs proves that he can do more than just rap really well (as if we needed anymore justification). Guests include Bun B, Jay Rock, Chip The Ripper, Chuck Inglish, and BJ Tha Chicago Kid. My favorites are Rock Bottom and Personal OG but the entire EP is worthy of discussion and worthy of your listening time. One omission is the song Crushin Feelings which is an instant classic and is Gibbs at his best. It doesn't detract but I just wish it was included officially.

If you don't mind checking out some of these newer and un-established rappers that are soon to be the face of hip hop then Freddie Gibbs is a must. Look for his major label debut coming soon. 5 stars.

"Not since 2Pac has a rapper had such charisma and an andrenaline charged delivery. Freddie Gibbs is bringing back gangster rap to what it used to be like in the mid 90s. No gimmicks, no dance songs, no singing, just straight hard, introspective lyrics with beats to match. Stick around, Gangsta Gibbs is the future!"
