Synopsis

Album Description
Some Bridges, Fred Martin & The Levite Camp?s dynamic debut for Concord Records uniquely blends rock, gospel, blues, soul and jazz into something wholly original and spiritually uplifting. Martin arranges, co-produces (with Jackson Browne), and plays on all 10 tracks, while contributing a few originals of his own and even adding new lyrics to some of Browne?s songs. The electrifying Levite Camp, featuring the dynamic duo lead vocalist, Chavonne Morris and Alethea Mills and is supported by guest appearances by jazz legend Hugh Masekela (whose trumpet is heard on "The Next Voice You Hear"), East L.A.?s Grammy-winning Latin jazz-rock-funk group Ozomatli (on "Lives in the Balance"), modern-day bluesman Keb Mo (on a brilliant reworking?and retelling?of Robert Johnson?s "Crossroads") and, of course, Mr. Browne. Produced by Jackson Browne and Fred Martin. Features special guest artists: ? Jackson Browne ? Keb? Mo? ? Ozomatli ? Hugh Masekela

CD Reviews

Browne's Genius, with Soul
John C. Bergeron | Saint Paul, MN United States | 09/22/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've only heard this record twice, but already the six Jackson Browne originals on it, songs that I've known and loved for such a long time, have a new and special meaning for me. These are not covers, they are songs that have been revitalized in such a way that they stand alone, alive with a profound spirit that gives even greater honesty and power to Jackson's poetry. The other songs on this disc are no less rousing and powerful. Fred Martin is a brilliant teacher and player, and a marvelous mentor to lead singers, Chavonne, Alethea, and these other wonderful young artists. Jackson, Keb Mo, Hugh Masakela and Ozomatli sit in on various tracks, making this debut just that much better. I hope this release garners the attention it deserves (Grammy!!). What I would have given to have been in the studio while all of this was happening!!"

"You will love this if you are a Jackson Browne fan, this is a must have CD (record)! You will also be supporting Fred Martin's (as well as, Jackson Browne's) heart and vision for reaching out to the youth in inner city Los Angeles through a fantastic music program. It is beautiful and uplifting."
My Blues Heaven - and that's Gospel.

"Start yourself up with a funky version of 'World in Motion'and get on the road. This is a journey through life and, ultimately,to the truth - love. The luxury this music affords is that you are rewarded every step of the way just for taking the trip. Jackson Browne gives you the first gentle nudge,as only he can,and the next thing you know are in over your head with Chevonne Morris's silky smooth voice melting through you, efffortlessly carrying your soul as well as your smile through 'some bridges'.'The Next Voice You Hear' really is your own as by now you're saying "hey, this is blues, this is jazz, this is GREAT!" Now you're awake, Hugh Masakela having played the most beautiful reveille you ever heard. Now you're ready to get into the groove :'About My Imagination' - the message so clear;it's past time to think about where we're at and admit to ourselves we are overdue for that transformation. Almost gospel, but all the truth's not out yet. Where are we? We're in a world at war, always, somewhere. Time to get passionate about those innocents, when justice is weighed in the hands of each child that dies: 'Lives In The Balance' will get you all stirred up but, as Jackson Browne has asked (Before The Deluge) "let the music keep our spirits high" - and it does. "Are we there yet?" Well, you had to ask. YES, YEs, Yes! is flowing out of you by the time you are being coaxed and seduced by Chevonne Morris,Alethea Mills and Aminah Ofumbi, right there alongside Jackson Browne and accompanied by Fred Martin on piano.'Don't You Want To Be There?'is of course the question. Ok,let's get up and really moving, we are being taken up now, over the bridge to that wonderful place.Robert Johnson and Walter Hawkins' 'Crossroads/Until I Found the Lord' gets you dancing inside and out, now we're up there. Full gospel - we got it, and it's what we always wanted. It's the trophy, the victory . If you ain't into this, you're already dead, man. Now down the other side, easy and light. Floating like the angels themselves are delivering you. "Take away my cross and give me a crown":'That's What He Said'is the reflection of what we have been told and the truth we've found. Time now to kick back and relax. We really made it. You're in the land of milk and honey. 'THESE ARE THEY'gives you the time to rest in quiet jubilation, like the breath you take when you can't believe you've fallen in love, and you know you're loved right back. You might even get the little smile, even a tingle. Well, that's all good for you, but hey, what about the others? All those who missed the trip this time? We gotta stand up and say something. "We changed" not only we lucky ones but everyman who's lost still. "TAKE ME BACK TAKE ME BACK TAKE ME BACK TO THE PLACE WHERE I FIRST RECEIVED YOU" That's the prayer at the end of this journey. 'MESSAGE TO THE CHURCH/THE WORD OF GOD/THE DAYS OF YEA AND NAY', written by Fred Martin and Chevonne Morris takes you right back to the beginning. The full circle. WORLD IN MOTION. Jump on and take that leap of faith. Guarantee a safe landing.:)"
