CD Reviews

The Best Frankie has done in years
Joseph Reitano | saylorsburg, Pennsylvania USA | 04/11/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have many of Franks cd's but this is one of his best.He does some of his old songs with more up to date arrangements. He also takes some songs from the Everley Bros and Ed Townsend and others and does one hell of a job.If I could give it 100 stars I would."
Great album, get the 'better' version

"This here album is a very pleasant latter-day attempt by Frankie Avalon at recreating a doo-wop sound. I find it notable for some interesting keyboard sounds that often have a bell-like quality. Many of the songs feature synth-strings in the background as well as backing vocalists. His vocals are still good. This album was released in the 1990's, but sounds much unlike other 90's albums. This version of Venus is very good, with it's harpsichord-like synthesiser and echo. The album makes you feel good. The tracks featured are mostly pop staples from the late 50's, including a few remakes of his old hits. This is definitely a good album.

However, an augmented version was released in 2005 by a British company which features five more songs. It was called 'My special angel' and is in print, available on this very website, so I suggest you order yourself a copy of 'My special angel' if you like the samples here or want to collect more Frankie Avalon music."
A very pleasant surprise.

"This is a much more mature Frankie Avalon than most fans will remember. His voice has deepened and he sounds terrific. His versions of "Let It Be Me" and "Goodnight My Love" are particularly outstanding. This is truly enjoyable from start to finish. Any fan of 1950's ballads should own this CD."
