Perico Rípiao at it's best!!!

(5 out of 5 stars)
"Well, this master of the accordian is one of the legends of folkloric Dominican dance music; Perico Rípiao (a traditional form of "Merengue" which originated in the 1930's). He tears through the chord changes as if he were literally 'ripping the feathers off of a parrot' (reference to the loose english translation for "Perico Rípiao"). He has the chops of no one I've ever heard.
I wish that I knew the names of the other musicians on the session... they're also VERY burnin' on these tracks!!!
It's a smal group: One (maybe two) percussionist(s), bass player, alto saxophonist, Francisco on accordian/background vocals, and a singer (who's playing guira if I'm not mistaken).
I never get tired of this CD -- When I play this record at parties, everyone has a great time!
