CD Reviews

Torched Frances
Amanda Brooks | Los Angeles, CA USA | 10/16/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The self-titled Frances Ruffelle is absolutely brilliant, a true masterpiece, a mixture of theatre songs and pop, all favorites of Frances. She pours out her emotions in this album, complete with strength, vulnerability, innocence and heartbreak. One reason I love this album is because she has included pop songs written just for her. She has not strayed from her true love:pop."
Surprisingly wonderful

"I have always liked Frances Ruffelle--from her days as Eponine in the original cast of Les Miserables. I did expect this to be a good album--but I did not think it was be as wonderful as it is. Ruffelle gives emotional renditions to a mix of theater and popular songs set to a sparse, but effective, accompaniment. It is refreshing to hear a capable singer who has such confidence in her voice that she doesn't need several orchestras to support her."
The most wonderful CD ever recorded.

"This is easily my most favorite, favorite album of all. Every song on this CD, I must admit, I have never heard sung better than Ms. Ruffelle sings them on here. She is easily my favorite female singer because of her wonderful, wonderful voice that is more full of emotion than any other singer of any kind anywhere, In addition such a great singer, the songs are as wonderful, with "In a Very Unusual Way" and "Being Alive" becoming to new favorites of mine, and I like most of the other songs very nearly as much. It has really introduced me to Sondheim and Maury Yeston. This is the best CD purchase you could make anywhere, and at least it is available here on the internet, for I have found it truly impossible to find in any music store in Minnesota. I wish I were in England, I'm sure music like this is easier to find and more popular there than over here. The only bad part about this CD is that it has only eleven songs. I just can't wait until her next album, I'll be first in line to buy it."
