82-year old Tennessee fiddler Blizard plays very well on this well assembled disc of old-time music. The tracks are split almost evenly between vocals and instrumentals, with the later category definitely the stronger. Blizard, who shows a pronounced Arthur Smith influence, is at his best on bluesy tunes like DICKSON COUNTY # 2, CARROLL COUNTY BLUES and FIDDLERS BLUES, but also has very nice versions of BONAPARTES RETREAT, LADY OF THE LAKE, KATY HILL and FOX CHASE. He is accompanied solidly and tastefully by Gordy Hinners on fretful banjo, Phil Jamison on guitar and John Hermann on. Good old-time fiddle music here.
