"This session, like the later "The Beautiful Sea," ranks as one of their best. The title is adapted from a song that by itself is worth the price of the CD--"Music Is Forever." With words by Annie Ross, it's an elegiac tribute to all of the great musicians who have left us--from Satchmo to Bill Evans to Mel Torme--and an affirmation of the enduring quality of all those seemingly evanescent notes. It's especially poignant when Jackie finally sings, "They may say you're gone, but I won't believe it," because it sounds like she's directly addressing her lifelong mate and musical partner, Roy, who recently passed away.



I sometimes despair of finding listeners familiar with the music of Jackie & Roy, or even tuned into the musical values they represent. They were the best vocal duo in the history of jazz, performing together for 60 years. For those who missed them, the loss is theirs.
