CD Reviews

Great political satire
Dave Romm | Minneapolis | 07/25/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"There are actually two Foremen albums entitled Folk Heroes, and the second one is listed by Amazon. Some amazing political satire done folk style. In today's political climate, ruled by hate radio, and conglomerate media outlets, songs like these wouldn't find airplay: Conservatives sling mud, liberals have clever lyrics and real humor. The Foremen are often compared to Tom Lehrer which is a bit unfair for both. They over lap in concise wit, fine rhymes, musical variety and in how they skewer the political dunderheadedness of the day. But the Foremen are a group and Lehrer was one guy on a piano, and they culture they puncture is decades apart. Both recommended, of course. And if you can find the first Folk Heroes used or somesuch, pick that one up too."
We used to wanna sing like Joan Baez
Johnny Heering | Bethel, CT United States | 03/12/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Foremen were a folk group that sang political satire songs (they have since broken up). This is their major label debut (they previously had a self released album with a lot of the same songs). This is a very funny album, especially if you are a liberal. Of course, most of these songs are topical, so they refer to events that occurred in the early to mid '90s. If you have a short memory, you might not get what these songs are about. Most of the songs have a liberal slant, although Bill Clinton gets lampooned in "Do The Clinton". This is album is hilarious, and I recommend it for liberals with a good sense of humor."
