Synopsis

Album Description
What is "A Fool?s Gold"? Perhaps consider it that which keeps a fool in favor. It?s his time-tested bag of tricks that he can count on to amuse and entertain. At least that?s the idea we had in mind for this, our debut recording. From our very first concert (in the fall of 1992) and beyond, we have attempted to "amuse and entertain" as well as enlighten an audience with the rich and varied repertoire available for the male vocal quartet. Drawing from our success, we have put together this eclectic collection of lighthearted musical miniatures from Mozart and Haydn to Berlin and Frackenpohl. These fun pieces have proved to please our public with each subsequent performance. We hope you, too, will find them amusing and worthy of this disc?s title, "A Fool?s Gold." Songfellows is a traditional male vocal quartet (two tenors, baritone and bass) that was originally formed in 1992 from the men?s chorus of the Metropolitan Opera. Founded by Ross Crolius as an adjunct to his career at the Met, the group has performed regularly every season throughout the northeast. With the virtual demise of this once popular type of ensemble, Songfellows has made it their mission to reacquaint audiences to the joys of male quartet singing. The group?s continued commitment to research and development of music for men?s voices has broadly expanded its repertoire to include a wide range of diverse styles, including classical, popular and jazz.
