Synopsis

Album Description
Nestled amongst the plains of Nevada lies Las Vegas, a city known for its sinful indulgences far more than its hardcore band contingent. Aside from Faded Grey and Curl Up And Die, very few groups have risen to become favorites outside of the Strip. That's all about to change though. Named after the maximum-security correctional facility in California, Folsom titled their debut disc, "Soundtrack To Prison Riots Across America," and have lived up to their rough and tumble reputation, on record, on stage and in the streets. With a full length demo in 2002 and a recently released split with Your Mistake, Folsom really have begun to build a name for themselves, and they continue to stab at success with the violent bloodletting that is their latest on Westcoast Worldwide Records. Relentless, brutal and ready to break your face into a thousand pieces, Folsom do not waste time in letting the mosh overtake each song. Each of the ten tracks here are laced with double bass! bombast, bone cracking chords, harsh vocals and tales of Suicide Krew life. Get ready to floorpunch, two step and spinkick all over your bedroom when this record gets going, and pray your furniture and personal belongings survive the attack. Personal favorites included "Beezor Blues," "Viper," "Weed Out The Weak," and "Hodor," though not a single track here is a disappointment. The production is one of the best to be coaxed out of Pus Cavern Studios, with a liberal use of appropriate film samples, and accompanied by artwork not far removed from the joint. Part of what I found most enjoyable about this effort was its often laid-back atmosphere. Sure, Folsom can dish out typical tough guy rants, but it's their songs about just hanging out and having fun that make this one a keeper and a step up from the commonplace pseudo convict claptrap that is so very abundant and often pretty pointless. Thankfully, these Sin City good ol' boys make sure to put a smile on your face before they knock your teeth out. Folsom is a hardcore band. They don't try to inject metal leads or indie breaks into any of their material. Attention is paid to the old school and respect is given to the new, and Folsom is not afraid to profess their penchant for either. If you dig Cold As Life, 100 Demons, Death Threat, and The Hoods, get your brass knuckles out, hit the dancefloor, and bring on the pain...
