CD Reviews

A must have...of a well deserving group
Psychedelic Guy | Illinois | 12/02/2005

"I found out about Focal Point by reading their column on Marmalde-Skies, they seemed just like the type of Psychedelic band I would enjoy to hear. So I e-mailed Paul Tennant (Guitarist and vocalist of the group)and he suggested me to the 94 Baker Street cd which had 5 of their tracks, those tracks were absolutley fantastic. Then he informed me that a CD of them was going to be made with all their other ercordings, I couldn't wait to recieve it. I wasn't to be dissapointed as this cd is absolutley great. along with their 5 great tracks that have been released came an abundance of other lost gems of 60's psychedelic music (Girl On the Corner is one of the best songs I've ever heard). This cd is a must for any fan of Psychedelic music. Especially fans of the "Undergorund" scene. It's great that Paul kept this band alive with the great success story of them and this cd release, Kutos to you Paul, You did an awesome job!"
Another fine band from the Deram records period

"Their song "Sycamore Syd," included in this very comprehensive (although not totally complete, see review below) collection of their work, is a "very tough to find" classic among early Deram 45 releases. The music here is very steady throughout and a good example of the sound of the period (mid-60's). "Miss Sinclair" is a monster, as is the demo version of "Reflections" which sounds years ahead of its time. The version of "Reflections" that was actually released is in here as a copy of a rather scratchy 45. That's OK!! Sounds just the way I remember the songs of that day."
Its A Shame They Never Made It Big

"One of the great lost albums of the 1960's by a Liverpool group that was considerably better than some of the other groups coming out of that same city. If you like good music, you can't go wrong with this one. And if the one that's coming out in 2007, supposedly, Liverpool You're In My Soul, is even half as good as this collection, it will perhaps give the group some long-overdue fame and recognition. And yes, the Focal Point of today is the original group. Only drawbacks on First Bite are the demos which are kind of rough, but then they weren't meant to be the finished product and made available for general release."
