Synopsis

Album Description
This rare double album has long-since earned its place on many a vinyl collector's 'want' list, both for its content and brilliant sixties cover art The Five Day Week Straw People, was the brainchild of Attack's frontman (John Du Cann) and rhythm section (Mick Hawksworth on bass, vocals and Jack Collins on drums), in an attempt to record a full blown psychedelic opus. In 1967 in a small studio north of London under the watchful eye of Roy Thomas Baker, the band recorded this legendary work in just 4 hours! After the albums release Du Cann became infatuated with the exciting new sounds of psychedelia, continuing his illustrious career with Andromeda and Atomic Rooster. This important 19 track reissue includes 9 bonus tracks by Attack 'Magic In The Air', 'Mr. Oinnodmy's Dilemma', 'Freedom For You', 'Strange House', 'Feeling Like Flying', 'Too Old', 'Go Your Way', 'Now The Sun Shines' & 'Sleep Like A Child.'

CD Reviews

Freakbeaty

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Each song on Five Day Week Straw People drips with garage-psych gooeyness. From the opening bars of Five Day Week Straw People you know what your in for. Acid fuzz guitar licks, saturated vocal reverb, tripped out drums, booming bass guitar and upside-down sound effects. It's all here.

The nine Attack tracks included are less psychedelic but more freakbeaty. Oustanding cuts include Gold Digger, Magic in the Air, Too Old, Go Your Way and Five Day Week Straw People.

The REAL FDWSP

"The Editorial Review was taken from info provided with this BOOTLEG that was being sold by Akarma (a 'grey area' label). This unauthorized re-issue was withdrawn after a lawsuit against the session guitarist (DuCann) who released it as a double album (adding his Attack album to the original FDWSP album by Guy & David.

The Five Day Week Straw People was formed by David Montague & Guy Mascolo (recently deceased). They composed the songs & it was THEIR band. (For this wretched BOOTLEG, DuCann even removed their names from the original cover art & composer credits !).

This "re-issue" is a rip off ! DO NOT BUY IT.

An authorized , legit CD reissue has been released by England`s Cherry Red label . Seek THAT one out . It has glorious sound, and packaging (with lots of photos & extensive liner notes).

R.I.P. Guy Mascolo (1944-2009)
