CD Reviews

I give this cd the finger

"As a huge Ryan Adams and Jesse Malin fan I had to buy this cd. It was only available as an import at the time (even though it was recorded in NYC). I love these guys so I didn't mind shelling out the extra cash. With that said-I pretty much hate this cd. I have never been a big fan of "hardcore" music and this cd would definitely qualify as "hardcore". It reminds me of Black Flag and Rollins Band with a little Dead Kennedys thrown in. I appreciate bands like this but I've never really enjoyed listening to them myself. If you are a Ryan or Jesse fan because of their great singer/songwriter stuff you might want to skip this one. Neither one of them sing. A guy named Colin Burns (who also did all the freaky artwork) sings (yells actually) all the songs. The songs are also very short. Some even less than a minute. I love The Ramones so I don't mind this really but this cd is not The Ramones. The Ramones were loud, fast, and catchy and this is just loud, fast, and louder.
Ryan Adams and Jesse Malin are truly talented guys and I love everything they've done but I can't recommend this cd. However, I do think it is cool that they can do different things. Maybe the name "The Finger" means that is what they are giving to anyone who doesn't like this cd. So f*** me I guess."

I love these guys so I shelled out the extra cash. With that said I pretty much hate this cd. I have never been a fan of "hardcore" music and that is pretty much this cd. It is basically just Ryan, Jesse, and two friends getting nuts for the hell of it. It reminds me of Black Flag and Rollins Band with a little Deady Kennedys thrown in. We're talking less than a minute a couple times. I love The Ramones so I don't mind this but this cd is not The Ramones.

Four rockin friends make punk rock work!!

"This album was recorded in just two nights at a small studio in NYC, it features four (unnamed) friends who we all know and love playing the music that moved them and they grew up on. It works. These guys sound like early Black Flag meets the Bad Brains and it rocks! I listen to this all the time on my iPod, it's really great. Fast moving rythyms and rockin beats make for 2 albums worth of great short (ala Ramones) songs on one CD!! A must buy!"
