Synopsis

Album Description
"FGFC820 is perhaps the best example of pure, beat-driven EBM to be unleashed onto the scene in years. The rhythms pound their way into your psyche with militaristic grandeur, stomping like a Teutonic march the likes of which have been mostly lost in this new age of synthpop wannabes." - REGEN MAGAZINE Formed in 2004, FGFC820 is the new tribal EBM project from well known and respected New York DJs Rexx Arkana and Dräcos. Drawing on influences ranging from old school industrial to modern gabber, Arkana and Dräcos combine to create a sound that is at once melodic and relentlessly rhythmic. In addition to twenty years of experience as both a DJ and promoter-having worked with everyone from industrial stalwarts Skinny Puppy and Ministry to newer stars Covenant and VNV Nation-Rexx Arkana is also the founder of scene super group Bruderschaft. As DJs, it's not surprising that FGFC820's compositions inspire movement, nor that their messages have been enslaved by the beat. FGFC820 create bone-crushing dance floor anthems, drawing early comparisons to such legends as Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb.

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Well, not really, but it should. Military games, anyone? It's a fun album in the right frame of mind. Hard, crunchy beats, over somewhat spare, anthemic music with lots of shouty sing-along choruses. When it works, it works well. Some well crafted songwriting, and the album has a definite voice/aesthetic to it, which is nice in that it doesn't just blend in with the masses. Sometimes the lyrics can be a bit overwrought--they're best when one feels like it is more about fun imaginary militaristic cinematics rather than any serious political commentary (sort of like Funker Vogt can get away with some lyrics because they are so charmingly silly). There are exceptions, such as "Perfect War" or "Victim," with the lyrics in the latter being, I dare say, insightful and touching. The "Resolutions" are a good idea as they give a continuity to the album and create an atmosphere that adds an essential depth--otherwise it could become a little bit rote. They're definitely good at what they do with standout songs such as "G.B.A." (the lyrics to that one are either a little wonky or else a fun soundtrack for "Starship Troopers" or some such), "Society," "Children of Decay," and "World of God." Be forewarned, it can be ranty. Perhaps they should watch "I Heart Huckabees" before undertaking their next venture. Recommended nevertheless."
