CD Reviews

Brilliant, Wonderful, Exactly the Reasons I love Trance.
Marshall Henrie | Albuquerque, NM United States | 04/24/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"What makes a good trance CD? Smooth song transitions, building energy levels, compelling synthesizers, occasional inspired vocals, and a careful selection of music that flows so easily into the mind that absorbing it is as easy as breathing.Ferry Corsten has done it again with this release that, surprisingly, is even better than Global Trancemissions 1. Immediately after purchasing this CD, it assumed a spot near the top of my favored trance mixes. Uplifting, interesting, captivating, reassuring: Global Trancemissions 2 fulfills that hard-to-define list of reasons why trance is my favored form of music. If there is anything on this CD that is less than perfect, perhaps it is hearing scratches and pops during the quiet spots, but then again, this only indicates we are listening to the real thing: vinyl selections with a proven track record from months or years of success on the dance floor.Until a few months ago, I was very familiar with songs by Gouryella and System F, but had never heard of Ferry Corsten. What a shock it was to me to learn those groups were just aliases for Ferry Corsten. Since that time, I have purchased most everything by Ferry, and this CD (along with the Ministry of Sound Trance Nation 2001) are his best works. Ferry has now assumed the role of world-class trend-setter and will certainly help chart the course of trance into the coming years. Some time from now, Global Trancemissions 2 may very well be regarded as a classic, one of those trance CDs that helped define the entire genre of trance."
Some of the best Techno/Trance ever mixed
Dr. Lee D. Carlson | Baltimore, Maryland USA | 07/11/2002

"Techno/Trance is the music of the 21st century and perfectly representative of its philosophy. In the 21st century, the goal is to never arrest development, but to always move it forward. Temporary reflection in momentary restpoints is necessary for progress, but progress in the 21st century is happening at an accelerating rate. Thankfully, we have increasing globilization, technological innovation, and scientific discovery. This music reminds us of what an exhilirating time it is to be alive. Its melodies are an auditory surrogate for 21st century dynamism and exuberance. This mix has to rank as one of the best Techno/Trance compilations in existence. The tracks are unrelenting in the joy they bring to the listener. The tracks: 1. "Sugar 1": A slow intro followed by increasingly complex rhythms. The mood is more contemplative in this track. 2. "Eternity": The tempo dramatically increases here, but the rest periods, the signature of this style of music, are here too, as well as the profileration of themes. Some background vocals are present, provoking moods of nostalgia. 3. "Feat" followed by "Clear blue Water": The vocals are soft but erotic, and overlaid on the rest periods. But the voice brings one out of equilibrium, as expected, and as wanted. 4. "Clear Blue Moon": A travel to the dance floor, with a temptation to execute every conceivable pattern. 5. "Please Save Me": The best track of the collection. The vocals compete with the musical theme; most of the time distinct, but sometimes overwhelmed, delightfully. The energy increases with every second; rest is an anathema towards its end. 6. "Razorfish": The lead-in from Track 5 is brilliant. Only dance is permitted here; the door is closed to all other activities. 7. "Underwater": The vocals are sirenic and irresistable; one can never refuse their invitations. 8. "Lost in Motion": Random in content; it keeps everyone on the dance floor; no breaks permitted. 9. "Feat" followed by "Drifting": The dancers compete with themselves, but no choreography is necessary. The vocals guarantee sustained interest. 10. "Pocket Damage": In the 21st century everyone must dance: perhaps without knowing it. 11. "My Dance": Pure dance, with the dancers signaling to the DJ: keep going. 12. "In the Beginning Again": The end so don't hold back."

"Prior to this purchase I had a few of the compilations Ferry Corsten had done for the Ministry of Sound. These were fairly average but always with a dash of brilliance that made you know he was capable of more. I bought this and Global Trancemissions 1 on the basis of the reviews I read here. FANTASTIC, AWESOME. BRILLIANT trance CD. There are truly some amazing DJs from Holland and with this Ferry Corsten topples my all time favourite, DJ Tiesto, and shows that he can match and exceed his work. Definitely for trance fans or anyone interested in the learning more about the genre. Not a dollar will be wasted if this CD is purchased."
