Synopsis

Amazon.com
Not the light-rock wannabes you might expect from their rustic name, Bottomland instead practice a stylish soul-pop that Sade might admire. Slightly more energetic than that mood-music goddess's catalog, Feet of Clay offsets its percussion-driven grooves with impressionistic lyrics by singers Amikaeyla Proudfoot Gaston and Wendy Lanxner. The mood is nearly self-consciously uplifting, but songs such as "You Always Come to Mind" are appealing enough to put this band on the radio. --Rickey Wright

CD Reviews

Incredible!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"It's not very often I find a CD I can listen to every day for five months. Surprisingly, that's exactly what's happened with "Feet of Clay." And what's more amazing about this band and their first CD, is that I still get goosebumps listening to some of the tracks. The sounds are full, polished without being too slick, and downright uplifting. I usually look for music I can dance to, and here it is. It's not your typical club music. I'm amazed at how Bottomland has taken Jazz and made it as accessible for the body as it is for the ears. But then, "Feet of Clay" isn't a jazz CD. It isn't strictly worldbeat, tribal/techno, or pop. It's just one CD of totally kick tracks that defies simple definition...except to say it's absolutely phenomenal. Still. Five months (and about 175 plays) later."
A terrific first release

"After hearing the profile on Weekend All Things Considered I had to pick up Bottomland's funky, wonderful first album. (And have been listening to it non-stop since.) The vocals are beautiful, like a mellower, more soulful jhelisa. Great drums and percussion and the horn work slides in and out of the rythms with gleefull, Miles-Davisish precision. A real find!"
