Synopsis

Album Description
Like the city from which it hails, the music of the band Father Divine is a melting pot of diverse cultures, ideals and esthetics. Founded in New York by Joe Ferrara (aka Father Divine) in 2000, the band?s sound is a bold look into the depth and potential that music truly can have. Through the sounds of World Music, Hard Rock, late 60?s pop, Classical counterpoint, and countless other influences the elements of each song can be thought of as a sculpted menagerie layered with nuances for the listener to uncover. At times the songs are reminiscent of cinematic soundtracks, and other times more archetypical in form, but always striving toward a unique expression and outlook. With the release of The Great American Pastime, the band?s first full length CD, Father Divine has placed a premium on creating an album that is conceptually consistent not only from start to finish, but also in it?s presentation. With painstaking time and precision and almost entirely through their own resources, Father Divine hopes to establish a paradigm fortified by the power of music and sound.

For Music Lovers Only

(5 out of 5 stars)

"With a music collection as diverse as the patterns in a kaleidoscope, I have always looked for artists and musicians with three binding elements: soul, soul and more soul. What makes a band so entrancing, apart from its hypnotic melodies and compelling rhythms, is its unbridled creativity, passion and desire to communicate on different levels simultaneously. The album, "Great American Pastime," by Father Divine is an example of superb musicianship, unique arrangements and mind-blowing lyricism. Unlike most modern pre-fab pop music, Father Divine delivers a powerful message under the guise of strong vocals, horns, drums, guitar, bass, keyboards and even a theramin (the instrument immortalized by the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations.") Much like the talents of Frank Zappa, Brian Wilson and Tom Waits, Father Divine is a band ahead of its time. If you have an open mind, an appreciation of exploration of the unknown, and a yearning to be one step ahead of the masses, this album is for you. Sit back, turn up the stereo and enjoy the trip."
