CD Reviews

Farflung - '25,000 Feet Per Second' (Flipside Records)
Mike Reed | USA | 03/03/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Can't believe I'm the first one to review this CD.I think this may've very well been Farflung's first release. As good if not BETTER than the later Farflung discs 'So Many Minds...' and 'Raven That Ate The Moon'(see my reviews on both). This is,of course where space rock is fused with industrial.Works very well.Tunes that truly make this CD a keeper are "Solar Electric",the tripping title cut "25,000 Feet Per Second" and the awesome fourteen-minute epic "Landing On Cydonia".Should appeal to fans of Helios Creed,Nik Turner, early Hawkwind,Zero Gravity and Pressurehed.A must-have."
First and finest

"25,000 Feet per Second is indeed Farflung's first release (from 1994) and remains their finest work to date. Grenas and the space tribe shake the galaxy with this monstrous neo-space rock behemoth. The crypto-Floydian feel of "Landing on Cydonia" is probably worth the entrance alone, but the rocket-fueled mayhem of tracks like "Solar Electric" and "Open Your Mouth" (like Hawkwind on black meth)is equally engaging. Other than desperately needing to be remastered, 25,000 Feet per Second is simply one of the best--and possibly the best--pure space rock albums from the last decade of the 20th century. Fans of Hawkwind and space punks Chrome will cream their jeans when they hear this one."
