Synopsis

Album Description
Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847), sister of the Early Romantic master Felix Mendelssohn, was a talented musician in her own right whose music was long neglected on the long-held patriarchal assumption that women could not be serious composers! Soprano Lan Rao was born in Guangzhou, China where she studied dance and vocal art. She went on to study in Germany with both Arleen Augér and Reri Grist. In 1983 she won the First Prize in the Lieder Competition at the International Summer Course in Vienna. Lan Rao has performed extensively around the world. Besides the German Lied, she is also still devoting herself to Chinese compositions. Pianist Micaela Gelius was born in Munich. As winner of the National Competition for Young Musicians, she studied to be a music teacher at the Munich Conservatory, specializing in song accompaniment under Erik Werba and Helmut Deutsch.
