Synopsis

Product Description
Eric Herman has become known in the kids' music world primarily for his ingeniously funny songs like "Cowboy Bergaleoukaleopaleous", "There's a Monster in My House" and "Blackbeard, Bluebeard and Redbeard" (winner of the 2006 Just Plain Folks award for Best Children's Song), and for his high-energy, comedy-filled live shows. But Eric has always had a softer side as well. Each of his first three CDs include some tracks that are more laid back; sweet and poignant songs that make kids smile while they're winding down from the more upbeat stuff, and songs that invariably make mothers everywhere go "awww". Eric has collected all of his "awww" songs together for Snail's Pace, the coolest "quiet-time" CD ever. In addition to previously released standouts like "Hide and Go Seek with the Moon", Snail's Pace has several new tracks including the jazzy "Scat Cat" (with amazing scat vocals by Sam Payne); the powerful spiritual metaphor of "Nightlight"; a transcendent rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" (with original lyrics); and a brand new version of Eric's "The Elephant Song", which has become a huge hit among all kids' music videos on YouTube, and which features Eric's girls, Becca and Evee. (Becca also designed the cover for Snail's Pace when she was only 3.) Influences like The Beatles, Kate Bush and Paul Simon may be deep under the surface, but Eric Herman's music has a voice and style that is truly his own, and Snail's Pace is an outstanding collection of melodic and relaxing songs that really shows off Eric's unique "awww" side.

Change of Pace
North Idaho Dad | 09/03/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Eric Herman, one of our favorite kids' musicians, has released a lovely new collection of mellow pop music that is just perfect for getting your kids to wind down at the end of the day. Eric's previous three CDs showed off his goofy sense of humor, but he always reserved a few songs on each disc for a lullaby or ballad. On Snail's Pace, he brings together those tracks, with a few remixed and re-recorded, and gives us four completely new ones.

It's always a tricky thing when an artist re-records a popular song, but Eric's new rendition of his classic "The Elephant Song" out-cutes the original by featuring his two little girls as the helpful audience. The family influence is everywhere on this CD, with wife Roseann writing and producing, and now the kids doing vocals and even designing the cover art.

The new song that really stands out is "Scat Cat," a jazzy, finger-snapping tune about a prowling feline. My kids like just about any song about cats, but this one definitely delivers something out of the ordinary. Other new tracks include "Nightlight," "For The Beauty of the Earth," and a pretty rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."

The main appeal of this collection of old and new songs is it's smooth and calming flow. Parents will definitely appreciate having 40 minutes of quiet pop music to get little ones ready for bed.

Snail's Pace gets a huge recommendation from my family."
