"If you enjoy (older) 10,000 Maniacs and Innocence Mission, you will absolutely love this cd. I first heard it playing in a cafe and bought the cd for a rather large sum (it was a cafe, after all) after only hearing soft snippets of the songs. It was totally worth the money I paid. It is the perfect music for everything from long workday afternoons to lazy Sunday mornings to intense stormy nights. Full of rich melodies, fiddles, acoustic guitars and the most *beautiful* female voice I have heard in a great while, I highly recommend this cd. Go ahead and get it, especially at this price :)"
Hidden Treasure

"Sure, none of your friends have heard of Equation, but they're missing out. I have loved this CD from the very first track and I still can't get enough. Equation's sound has been described as British-Celtic folk-pop. Basically, their sound is all their own and thus this ambiguous description suits them well. They're not quite like anything you've ever heard. But watch out; this album is highly addictive. From the intensely singable "Kissing Crime" to the contemplative "Myself" to the superb "Strange Love," the tracks are all incredibly sincere and beautifully performed. I played this album all summer at the large bookstore where I worked, and every time I played it, someone would come up and ask what was playing. I always highly recommended it to those who asked, as I do to you today. Maybe someday Equation will be the household name that they deserve to be, but for now, they remain one of music's most exquisite hidden treasures."

"I saw these guys live in Colorado Springs, CO (2/17/2000) and was exillerated by the energy combined with incredible melody that enthused the packed house at Jack Quinn's Irish Pub. Their success is fully deserved.. and long may it continue!"
A Unique Experience

"We were introduced to Equation by their live appearance on NPR's "Mountain Stage" which is taped locally. They had a good set, so we bought "Hazy Daze" at the outside booth as we left. We weren't prepared for the rich experience that awaited us.Larry Groce introduced them as an "English Folk Rock group" which is a bit like introducing Yosemite as "A Canyon in California" - a gross understatement. In fairness, though, Equation's sound is difficult to categorize. There's a strong english folk quality that's tempered by Celtic and pop influences. Kathryn Roberts' vocals and the group's instrumentals complement each other perfectly to provide a quiet, somewhat introspective sound that still doesn't lack for energy. This is an album that you can play over and over and never tire of."
A retro miracle

"It's not often that a group gells exquisitely on every track; but Equation manages that and more; the singing is haunting, soft and unforgettable; the backup spare, clean and inventive; the mixes perfection; the lyrics evocative and sweetly ambiguous -- there is a melancholy like that of a candle in the room of a dying poet; and, equally rare, the album digs in deeper with repeated listenings. Songs such as "Communion" almost transcend the genre (folk/rock/what?), leaving behind an ache that is close to unbearable; get this album; break your heart; rediscover that almost Autumn-like wrench of lives slipping out of recognition and into something like holy love. Wow!"
