Synopsis

Album Description
(from the CD's liner notes) "We live in a Covenant with our God which we inherit in the water of Baptism. Songs of the Covenant is a collection of music which reflects on God's Covenant with us. These songs recount the manifestation of His Covenant with us through His continued presence in our lives, guiding, protecting, and strengthening us. As His people, we are strengthened in our own commitments with others, and respond to God's Grace with joy, thanksgiving, and our eternal confession of God as our King, Savior, and Guide." While the lyrics center on a central theme, the music should be considered varied. "God Rules" is a full-blown rock anthem, with stacks of guitars and crowds of vocals. At the other end of the spectrum, though, is "I Call to You," a highly intimate piece with a single wooden guitar and a lonely voice. Of course, the rest of the songs fall somewhere in between. "Lord of All" is typical of the band's acoustic-electric sound, as is "God Is," "Just Call My Name", "I Can't See You," and "Blue Skies Ahead." Putting a funkier twist on that sound is "Light," with a drums and bass groove reminiscent of the 70's. An "unplugged" style also appears with the dark "Do You Know?," the celtic-inspired "Rain On Me," and the solitary "Road of Faith." Instrumentals make their appearance with two compositions: "The Game" with a fusion feel that culminates in a gorgeous piano solo, and "PassionDream," depicting the Christ's baptism, betrayal, crucifixion, and resurrection with a nod to electronica. And the band wouldn't be themselves without a lighter side--"My Friends" is a small reprieve from serious issues and a small poke of fun towards country music
