CD Reviews

Still on the Planet ! ! !
Eddie Landsberg | Tokyo, Japan | 09/26/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The seems to be a reissue of one of EJ's last albums STILL ON THE PLANET... (Muse label, '76 as I recall.)

It features a very FUNKY version of Chameleons - - sharp, tight, and lyrics as only EJ could deliver.

ZAP CARNIVEROUS is also too darn funky... in fact, because of Eddie I got heavily into bebop... and because of this album I also got into funk.

The album shows that hee was always with the times... even in the mid 70's when real Jazz was begining to flicker out, EJ was finding young artists to showcase, and able to stay with the times. Sadly he was killed just when the rest of the world was catching on (his "disciples", The Manhattan Transfer and Richie Cole were just about to break through, and needless to say, had not forgotten him!)

The lyrics on this album are great - - have a contemporary message (circa the era) -- all in all, shows that Eddie could not only swing - - but could get funky too !"
