"I just saw EY with Cursive and, in my opinion, they were quite a bit better than Cursive. I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of the Ugly Organ and most of the songs they played were from that, and the songs from Domestica they played were great (especially the Casualty), but EY was just great. The lead singer looks like a Tibetan monk, and he is SOO cute! good lord, he was just precious. He read this thing in the middle of the set in English about what a great time they'd had with Cursive and that they were going to tour the west coast and then go back to Japan and Cursive was going with them, and he would pause and say, "does this make sense?" and the like, and it was just so precious. Anyway, they also write really great melodies. Seriously, these are melodies right up there with Wouldn't It Be Nice and the best Ozma songs. I have no idea what he's saying because it's in Japanese, but it doesn't even really matter. Plus the CD booklet has the English translation of the lyrics so you can have some idea what he's talking about. I think I did catch a sayonara in Tokyo Clear Zero Degrees Celsius. All of the songs are terrific, but my favorites as of now are Freedom, I Open The Door, Tokyo Clear Zero Degrees Celsius, A Runner's Self-Portrait, and Hands Tucked Away In My Pockets. My impression of them at the show was that they sounded a lot like Spacehog during the slow parts, but I'm not really hearing that on the CD. It's just really great, and if you buy it, you'll be supporting the most precious guy in the world. So you should buy it. and go see them live. It was really cool."

"Kids, this is it. Here's your chance to broaden those horizons by a small degree. Eastern Youth is an incredible band from Japan. Of course, they've been putting out good records for years under the American radar. They released the split EP with Cursive a while ago, which was good, but simply pales in comparision with their newest album, "What Can You See From Your Place." While sung completely in Japanese, it doesn't matter. This record rules. The music reminds me of Jawbox. A three-piece band, the music is very guitar-oriented and all rock. Fans of good solid "indie rock" should invest their hard-earned dollars in this record. Check out a band called Quruli as well."
