CD Reviews

Classic Dusty
Chris Jackson | Leatherhead, Surrey United Kingdom | 01/19/2001

"Looking for something else from Dusty's catalogue, I came across "Blue for You". This album is a real gem. If you don't have any Dusty music in your collection, your library is already sadly lacking - but this 14 track album will more than put things right. Highlights of the album include the Goffin/King ballads "Going Back" and "Some of Your Lovin'". Dusty changes gear to give a breath of fresh air to the Shirelles classic "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", complementing the original with breadth and drive. The surprise track on this collection is "What Do You Do When Your Love Dies", with superb changes of key, a busy tale, great combination of brass and strings - chunky cello support, and Dusty sparkling throughout. This track is an icon of Dusty music. A classic that got away? From the remaining ten tracks, there's not one "ordinary" song, with a wealth of variety - from the self questioning "How Can I Be Sure" to Dusty's soulful versions of "My Colouring Book" and "If You Go Away". Add to that Dusty's mega hit of the Bacharach/David composition - "I Just Don't Know What to do with Myself" and Tom Springfield's unusual "Morning Please Don't Come" - there's a lot of good listening in this album. Don't miss this one. Leave it on auto play for a night."

"I'm a huge Dusty Springfield fan and this collection was quite a bargain. Her classic songs are here but also some others like Morning Please Don't Come, My Colouring Book, and Yesterday WHen I was Young. I love Dusty's voice and the range is here. It's a great compact disc and I was lucky to get it an affordable price at a supermarket of all places. I can listen to Dusty all the time and never get tired of that voice or that face. I do miss her now more than ever and I don't think we really appreciated it until she was taken from us at such an early age of only 59 years old just short of her 60th birthday."
